One of the things I tried doing when I launched TransforMATTion, which was a carryover from a Tumblr I created long ago was to find ways to share inspiration. Although inspiration and motivation can be short-lived in the larger practice of trying to create transformative habits, it can help jumpstart getting your butt off the couch or putting on your shoes to go outside.
One of the things that I has always helped give me a little extra push is music. Whether it’s the beat that can get your feet moving or lyrics that can push you a little longer, music has a way to help me push harder. I can remember times when I would arrive at the gym and realize I did not have my headphones, and I would go back home just so I could get them.
As I try to find new focus, music is still a constant that helps me. When I was working on TransforMATTion before, I had created several months’ worth of posts that were clips from songs that I found motivating. I want to restart that and share those messages as little reminders of all that it takes to be human.
Looking back at the archive I had created, there were several that I wanted to start with: Revival was one of them; but, I don’t feel like I am in a revival stage at this point, so the hope is to save that one for the future. For now, what I can try to hold onto is some hope to push forward this time around; and thus, I am starting with Hope for the Hopeless by A Fine Frenzy.
I can’t think of a better song to start out on; I think due to past failures, there is this sense of self-doubt that things will just be the same and that I am who I am; but I do know that things can change, so there is hope. In the past, thinking about certain cards that were dealt to me and I overcame, I know I can do it again, and so can you. So, let’s sing it: there IS hope for the hopeless.
Full Lyrics
Stitch in your knitted brow
And you don’t know how
You’re gonna get it out
Crushed under heavy chest
Trying to catch your breath
But it always beats you by a step, all right now
Making the best of it
Playing the hand you get
Well, you’re not alone in this
There’s hope for the hopeless
There’s hope for the hopeless
There’s hope
Cold in the summer breeze
Yeah, you’re shivering
On your bended knee
Still, when you’re heart is sore
And the heavens pour
Like a willow bending with the storm, you’ll make it
Running against the wind
Playing the cards you get
Something is bound to give
There’s hope for the hopeless
There’s hope for the hopeless
There’s hope
There’s hope
There’s hope
