This week I am sharing a song that I had completely forgot about until another song on the Nip/Tuck soundtrack came on and I have all these songs that were in my life pre-Spotify and sometimes it’s nice to find them once again. So, I went to the N/P soundtrack and found it! For those who watched Nip/Tuck, you know the premise of two partners who own a plastic surgery business and take on some odd cases as they battle with morals and a ton of other scandals. It fell apart in later seasons, but loved it either way. I always loved the music they used in the show, and obviously a lot of their focus was about appearance, and the song “So Damn Beautiful” makes me think about how so much of our world is pushed by beauty standards. Above and beyond that, the way we see ourselves are often created by those same messages, and often times those standards are based upon something that isn’t obtainable.
Although there are so many reasons to lose weight, and it’s different for everyone, so often it is hard to escape that there is a big part of the journey that is about vanity, which is inextricably connected to how we see ourselves and how other people see us, so how to do we accept ourselves no matter what and strive to be ourselves completely. Maybe it’s an impossible task, but, if we can just remember that we’re “So Damn Beautiful,” I think things could be so much better :), so here’s to accepting ourselves and trying to improve ourselves in a way that benefits us and not because of external pressures!
