Today was a long day. I didn’t get nearly the amount of things I needed to get done because my diet took priority, mainly because I had to eat and needed to figure out what the heck I that was. I also had to go shopping, so I had to find recipes and ingredients. I went to Hannaford first to get some basic things I knew I could get there and ended up with
- Plantains
- Buttercup Squash
- Butternut Squash
- Unsweetened Almond Milk
- Water
- Pork Loin
- 97% Ground Lean Turkey, and some 93% as well (gotta save $ somewhere)
- Mushrooms
- Tomato Sauce
- Sweet Potatoes
They did not have some of the things I know I needed for some of the recipes like almond flour and such, so I headed to the Natural Living Center after the Bangor Festival of Lights parade. It was quite cold out, so we did not stay for the entire thing, but saw some cool floats and sights – one being this Star Wars charity place!
Then off to the NLC to get the rest of what I needed. I felt like I had already spent an eternity in Hannaford getting those other things, looking at labels, dissecting what I could make, replace, and use best. I ended up with
- Almond meal
- Almonds, Roasted and Whole Regular, and slices
- Garlic Powder, Onion Powder
- Uncured, Bacon
- Coconut Oil
- Almond Butter
- All Natural Beef Broth
- Cashews
- Baking Dates
- Raspberry Vinegarette
- Coconut Flour
All of these things are on the paleo list (with a few exceptions of people who are super duper hardcore), but the recipes I found were all on respected paleo blogs. This is going to be quite an adventure.
It took me about 3 hours to make dinner and some banana bread tonight (blackberry glaze chicken). There are about 4,000 dishes in the kitchen (clean, because I know I would hate myself if I did not do them before bed). I am going to need to make sure to plan meals ahead of time – right now I mostly feel like I have dinners ready, so I need to think about breakfast and small lunches (as I travel for work). We shall see how the rest of the month goes, just hoping that things go as well as they did today (although less time consuming, hopefully as I get a better grasp on the whole thing).
I am challenging myself to 30 days, after that I will probably just try to integrate some of these things into a regular very low grain partially paleo diet (unless this takes right off and I find enough things I like). The problem has always been pickiness with me. I am an extremely picky eater, and adapting to vegetables is going to be difficult, but I am going to try slowly but surely!
Wish me luck (and if you have any great recipes or blogs for recipes, let me know!)
